The Honorable David Karem Endorses Lisa Sat, 19 May 2018 03:05:18 +0000

My support for Lisa Willner comes quite easily. I have spent 40 years of public life working on education issues. At my first sit-down with Lisa several years ago, it was clear she shared this same passion. I cannot overstate how important her devotion to education is needed in the Kentucky General Assembly.

Rus Funk Endorses Lisa Tue, 08 May 2018 01:10:06 +0000

Please join me in supporting Lisa Willner to represent the 35th district in the Kentucky House of Representatives. I offer my enthusiastic endorsement and support for Lisa and believe she is the best to continue, and expand on, the progressive legacy of Jim Wayne.

I have known Lisa for more than 10 years and have seen her compassionate, passionate and effective leadership skills. She will push a progressive agenda in Frankfort that will benefit us all, and will push back against efforts to halt our progress as a state. She has proven herself to be an effective organizer throughout her career, including as director of the Kentucky Psychology Association and on the Jefferson County School Board.

As a man, I also support Lisa for State Rep because Kentucky is desperately in need of more strong, progressive female voices. As a state, we are sorely lacking in female representation in Frankfort! As a man, I know that most of my interests are well represented in Frankfort. As a Human Rights advocate, I have to acknowledge the ways that my interests as a man are over-represented in Frankfort. I am proud that my son will see his dad working hard to support a woman to the State house. Lisa will be a great representative for all of the 35th district, while also helping to ensure that women’s voices continue to be heard as well.

Join me in supporting Lisa Willner, democrat for the KY State House!

State Rep Mary Lou Marzian strongly endorses Lisa Wed, 18 Apr 2018 18:13:18 +0000

Dear Friends:

I could not be more proud that Lisa Willner stepped up to run for State Representative.

Many of you may know Lisa, she serves on the Jefferson County School Board where she is an outstanding advocate for children, teachers, and public education.

When Jim Wayne announced his retirement, I was truly sad. Jim is a close friend and is one of the legislators in my carpool. Through the years we accomplished a lot together.

I knew finding someone to fill his shoes would be difficult. I’m overjoyed that we found just the right person in Lisa Willner.

There are many reasons I’m supporting Lisa: She’s extremely intelligent, graduated from Yale University and received her PhD in Psychology in California. She came back home and has raised her family in the 35th District. As a psychologist she brings important skills, and will be a strong advocate for mental health issues in the General Assembly.

On the JCPS School Board Lisa is known for getting things done. She works to bring people together to find commonsense solutions that put children first.

I’m also impressed with her platform. Lisa will be a fierce advocate for public education – needed now more than ever. She will work to expand good job opportunities to working people, and will fight to protect all people. Lisa will stand up for women’s rights, human rights, labor rights, and environmental rights.

Lisa has earned endorsements from JCTA, AFSCME, C-FAIR (Fairness Campaign), the FOP Deputy Sheriff’s Lodge, the Louisville Metropolitan Women’s Political Caucus, as well as many personal endorsements from 35th district leaders.

Lisa is persistent and will be a strong voice for Democratic values in the new Republican majority.

I’m standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Lisa Willner because she’s smart, she’s tough, and when elected she will help us make a difference in the State Capital.

Statement of Support from Duan Wright Wed, 28 Mar 2018 22:55:27 +0000

Since the very first time I met Dr. Lisa Willner I have been mesmerized by her sincerity. She is committed to improving the lives of others. Her true dedication and willingness to speak up for others is genuine. She is a voice for the voiceless. She is willing to fill the gap. She clearly demonstrates her work to make the community better every day for the good of others.

Lisa’s long standing commitment to public education is easily observed through her dedication as a Jefferson County Public Schools Board member. What is not as well known, however, is her behind the scenes commitment to ensuring that a quality education is accessible to every student, including those with disabilities who are, sadly, overlooked in too many policy discussions. As the parent of a JCPS autistic student and an advocate for systemic changes in our special education system, I have had a front row seat to Lisa’s unwavering commitment to the most disenfranchised of our students.

Lisa took the time to participate in our first “Re-Imagine Special Education” forum – the only JCPS School Board member to do so. But her participation didn’t end there. Lisa continues to reach out, seeking to understand the many issues which thwart student success. Her close study, willingness to “walk in our shoes”, and training as a psychologist are critical to raising the bar for Kentucky’s special education system – of which 90,000 students are a part. As a Commonwealth of Kentucky State Representative, Lisa will be able to broaden her efforts to ensure that ALL of Kentucky’s students have full access to a free, appropriate, public education and that our educators have the tools they need to provide it.

I deeply appreciate and fully support Dr. Lisa Willner for State Representative and encourage you to do the same!

Lisa Testifies on HB604 Mon, 19 Mar 2018 02:00:18 +0000 Lisa testifies in Frankfort on HB604, a bill that would increase school safety, mental healthcare access, and support for public school staff. Lisa was honored to have the opportunity to work closely with Marshall County State Rep Will Corsey – D, Symsonia (Marshall County) in drafting the bill.

Letter of support from Pinky Jackson Thu, 08 Mar 2018 03:55:03 +0000

Why I’m for Lisa:

As a parent and education advocate, I think a lot about healthy, safe schools. All of our students deserve to have secure environments and thoughtful leadership. When our children are safe and well educated, our communities thrive. I support Lisa Willner for State Representative because she understands that. In fact, Lisa exemplifies that.

As a school board member, Lisa consistently takes action to keep our schools safe, to support our community’s educational needs, and to hear our students’ voices.

As a psychologist and the Executive Director of the Kentucky Psychological Association, Lisa has a unique and very important background for this work. She is extremely qualified to be our State Representative.

After the school shooting in Marshall County, she consulted with the State Representative from that area to help write legislation that, if passed, would help to make our schools safer, increase access to mental health care, and add support to our hardworking school staff by putting a licensed mental health professional in every school. She has studied the issue and used her expertise to make a difference.

As a mother who’s passionate about education and who knows Lisa Willner personally, I’m proud to vouch for her character, honesty, work ethic, and integrity and to give her my strong endorsement.
